Changing the resolution on your MacBook is easy 👍

Below are the instructions for macOS Sonoma / Ventura / Monterey and for older version.

💻

How to change the screen resolution on MacBook

🧭

Procedure (newer macOS - Sonoma, Ventura, Monterey):

  1. Click on  (Apple menu) top left.

  2. Select System settings (System Settings).

  3. In the left panel, select Displays (Displays).

  4. You'll see a section Resolution (Resolution).

    • Select Scale (Scaled).

    • You will then see a menu of different text sizes and resolutions.

    • Click on More space (More Space) → smaller elements, higher resolution.

    • Or Larger text (Larger Text) → larger font, lower resolution.

🖱️

Advanced mode (display all resolutions):

  1. Open again System settings → Displays.

  2. Hold the key Option (Alt) and click on Resolution → Scale.

  3. The following will be displayed all available resolutions, not just the recommended ones.

  4. Choose a resolution that suits you.

⚠️ Caution: too high a resolution may cause text to be tiny or blurry unless „Retina“ is recalculated.

🖥️

External monitor

If you have an external monitor connected to your MacBook:

  • The procedure is the same, only after selecting Displays will be displayed each monitor separately.

  • You can set a different resolution for each.
