{"id":10782,"date":"2025-10-09T20:20:43","date_gmt":"2025-10-09T19:20:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/applefix.cz\/?p=10782"},"modified":"2026-05-09T10:29:48","modified_gmt":"2026-05-09T08:29:48","slug":"how-to-reset-smc-and-nvram-pram","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/applefix.cz\/en\/jak-resetovat-smc-a-nvram-pram\/","title":{"rendered":"How to reset SMC and NVRAM \/ PRAM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\ud83e\udded&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What it is and what it's for<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>SMC (System Management Controller)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u27a1\ufe0f A small control chip that takes care of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>power and battery charging,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>fan control,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the behaviour of the power button,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>sleep modes,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>keyboard backlight,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>power adapter detection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reset SMC helps<\/strong>, when:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>MacBook doesn't turn on,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>not responding to charging,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the fans are running full blast,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>behaves erratically when put to sleep.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>PRAM \/ NVRAM<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u27a1\ufe0f The memory that preserves <strong>system settings<\/strong> even after the Mac is turned off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On newer Macs, the designation <strong>NVRAM<\/strong> (Non-Volatile RAM), earlier <strong>PRAM<\/strong> (RAM parameter).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It imposes e.g.:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>volume settings,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>screen resolution,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>selecting a starter disc,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>time zone,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>some system error conditions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Resetting NVRAM\/PRAM helps<\/strong>, when:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the Mac isn't booting properly,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>loses sound, video, or starts from the wrong drive,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>brightness, resolution or sound does not work properly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\ud83d\udd04&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to reset SMC and NVRAM \/ PRAM<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\ud83d\udcbb&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>MacBook with Apple Silicon chip (M1 and later)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>No special procedure is needed -
